Anyone here knows that Pulau Pinang actually has a goat farm? And it is open for public where visitors can touch, feed and learn how to make Goat Milk Product! Its here at Saanen Dairy Goat Farm at Balik Pulau and I just had my first visit today! The goats here are of white or cream-coloured coat breed and it is the largest among the goat dairy breed whereby they are most commonly used for commercial milking. This breed also produces most milk on average and tends to have a lower butterfat content, about 2.5%–3.0%. Saanen Goat Milk is considered one of the best quality of goat milk and is best in making goat milk yoghurt and other dairy product

Saanen Dairy Goat Farm consist of a small elevated barn on timber stilts for easy cleaning and maintenance like what we might expect of a small herding industry. The barn can keep up to 90 Saanen Goats. Even though the barn is small, the owner, Mr.Ho did not jerry-built it but had given lots of thought on the well-being of his goats. He is also very knowledgeable and taught us a lot about of goat breeding. For feeding, Mr Ho only give his goats a certain type of forage grass and beans and he will not use pellet feeds because he knows that these factory produced food will not help the goats to produce high quality milk with less 'odour'.

Besides feed, a mineral-rich Licking Blocks will be hanged in for the goats to lick whenever they feel that they lack minerals. These blocks  helps to improve the health and for a better growth while preventing some diseases such as ruminants pica, mastitis, hoof disease and slow growth phenomenon among others. These goats are used to licking salty surfaces so don't be surprise of thy start licking your legs and feet.

Not only can you visit goat farm and feed grasses to goats, you can also buy some goat milk and ice-cream too! The goat's milk yoghurt ice-cream taste amazing and is very refreshing and cooling under Penang's hot weather. Buy earlier because they are limited! The pure goat milk will be provided for you to try out first if you are worried about the 'odour'  of the Goat smell, but I strongly believe that almost everyone will like it after trying. The other special beverage is their Nutmeg Goat Milk Yoghurt drinks. The taste of nutmeg combined with goat milk is a speciality of  "Balik Pulau" and you will never find it in any other place but Penang!
