Paolo Di Canio is already looking to make additions at Sunderland, with Toulouse winger Franck Tabanou top of his shopping list – if the club can guarantee Premier League survival.

Talksport say that Di Canio will be backed in the summer if he manages to steer the club to safety, which is currently a doubtful proposition. The Black Cats sit in 17th place in the Premier League, only out of the drop zone on goal difference ahead of Wigan, who have a game in hand.

With any club in the bottom half of the table still effectively in a relegation battle, Di Canio has a difficult task to guide the club to another year in the Premier League. Sunderland's next fixture is the Tyne-Wear derby with Newcastle at St James' Park, an atmosphere which Di Canio will definitely have his players up for.

A further glance down Sunderland's remaining six fixtures and the only real winnable game is the home fixture with Stoke on the 6th May. Crossing the threshold of 40 points usually guarantees safety, but a resurgent Wigan side are again making their late dash for safety; the Latics won an impressive seven of their last nine games last season to celebrate another season in the top flight.

The signing of Tabanou would certainly represent a change in Sunderland's transfer policy. Previous managers Martin O'Neill and Steve Bruce have been handsomely backed in the transfer market, with Bruce signing Darren Bent for £10 million and Asamoah Gyan for £13 million; O'Neill made Steven Fletcher his marquee signing, clinching his signature in a £14 million move from relegated Wolves in summer 2012.

This was quickly followed up with a move for Adam Johnson from Manchester City for £10 million. Despite the vast amounts spent by the Black Cats, mid-table obscurity has been the best that fans on Wearside have been able to hope for, with this season's relegation battle a sign that changes are needed – especially in terms of transfer policy.

Tabanou would cost in the region of £2.5 million, as his contract expires in the summer of 2014. As much as Sunderland fans would hate to admit it, Newcastle's signings from Ligue 1 have proved to be of great value, and a copycat scenario would certainly be a positive change from the Sunderland's mini-galactico policy.

Not only would the signing of Tabanou appear unlikely in the midst of Sunderland's current relegation battle, but with reported interest from Inter – who have endured a tough season in Serie A, currently lying in 6th position – it is doubtful Tabanou would choose Wearside over Milan.

Dalang letupan bom di program BN Nibong Tebal terbongkar ...

Posted: 25 Apr 2013 04:52 AM PDT
